Special Event Grace Cathedral—book debut, Stations of the Cosmic Christ
San Francisco, CA, March 14th, 2016—Authors Bishop Marc Andrus and Matthew Fox will launch Stations of the Cosmic Christ, the sequel to the bestseller The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, one week before Easter Sunday.
The authors believe that in a time of ecological emergency like ours, people need to develop a "Cosmic Christ" or "Cosmic Buddha" consciousness, since "ecology is functional cosmology" (Thomas Berry). Many Christian churches pray the "Stations of the Cross," but this book proposes a whole new practice: the Stations of the Cosmic Christ. These Stations honor the sacredness in all beings and in all of us.
The book asks readers to understand the suffering and sacredness of our Earth so that we might aid in its resurrection. Stations of the Cosmic Christ includes photographs of an important, visually arresting set of sculptures of the 16 Stations, created by two artists—the late poet, potter, and essayist, M.C. Richards, and contemporary South American artist, Ullrich Javier Lemus.”
On March 19th, 2016 from 10:00am to 1:00pm Pacific Time, Stations of the Cosmic Christ will make its debut to the world at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral. Authors Bishop Marc Andrus and Matthew Fox will discuss the book and renowned Buddhist activist and teacher Joanna Macy will be Master of Ceremonies for the event. Contralto Karen R. Clark will sing some of Hildegard of Bingen's music. The authors will lead a short practice by walking several of the Stations. Matthew Fox will interview contributing artist Ullrrich Javier Lemus, and a retrospective of artist M.C. Richards’ work will be led by poet Julia Connor. Admission to the event is free.
1,000 (now 500!) special edition copies of Stations of the Cosmic Christ are now available for pre-order. Purchase will entitle the buyers to a private session and conversation with authors Matthew Fox and Bishop Marc Andrus immediately after the events of March 19th program. This meeting will take place in Grace Cathedral’s Chapter Room. In addition to the book, Cards of the Stations of the Cosmic Christ will be printed to allow people to undergo the practice at home or on the road, alone or with others. The Stations card set will be sent as a gift to those who preorder Stations of the Cosmic Christ.
